SafeNetRx Welcomes Paul W. Abramowitz to Board of Directors

DES MOINES, Iowa - June 30, 2026 - SafeNetRx CEO Jon-Michael Rosmann announced today that Paul W. Abramowitz, PharmD, ScD (Hon.), FASHP, Chief Executive Officer Emeritus of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) and Professor Emeritus at the University of Iowa, has joined the nonprofit’s Board of Directors.
A nationally recognized leader in pharmacy practice, healthcare innovation, and medication management, Dr. Abramowitz brings more than four decades of experience spanning patient care, education, research, and advocacy.
"Paul's distinguished career and unwavering commitment to improving patient outcomes through innovative pharmacy care make him an exceptional addition to our Board," said Jon-Michael Rosmann, SafeNetRx CEO. "His expertise and strategic insight will be invaluable as SafeNetRx continues to expand access to affordable medications and improve the health of the communities we serve."
Dr. Abramowitz served as Chief Executive Officer of ASHP from 2011 until his retirement in 2026. During his tenure, he doubled the organization's membership and revenues, established new sections, forums, and centers serving diverse a membership, launched The Pharmacy Technician Society, and fostered an award-winning organizational culture. He continues to be a leading advocate for innovation in pharmacy practice, professional development, and the advancement of patient-centered care.

A respected leader throughout the profession, Dr. Abramowitz previously served as President of ASHP and chaired the boards of the ASHP Research and Education Foundation, the Iowa Board of Pharmacy, and the Iowa Statewide Poison Control Center.
Prior to joining ASHP, Dr. Abramowitz spent more than 30 years in hospital and health-system leadership. He served as Associate Hospital Director for Professional Services and Chief Pharmacy Officer at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, while also serving as Professor in the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy. Earlier in his career, he held leadership and faculty positions at the Medical College of Virginia and the University of Minnesota.
Dr. Abramowitz developed a national reputation due to his ability to combine clinical practice, teaching, and research to advance pharmacy care models. These models continue to improve health outcomes, reduce healthcare costs, prevent adverse drug events, and expand comprehensive medication management across care settings.
On the academic front, Dr. Abramowitz earned bachelor’s degrees in chemistry and biology from Indiana University and Pharmacy from the University of Toledo. He received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Michigan and completed his residency at the University of Michigan Medical Center.
Dr. Abramowitz has been recognized numerous times, including the Harvey A.K. Whitney Lecture Award (Health System Pharmacy’s Highest Honor), the John W. Webb Lecture Award, and distinguished alumni awards from both the University of Toledo and the University of Michigan. He also received honorary Doctor of Science degrees from the University of Toledo and the Touro College and University System. Currently. Dr. Abramowitz serves on the boards of the American Nurses Foundation and the Howard University College of Pharmacy Board of Visitors, in addition to his service with SafeNetRx.
