150,000 Iowans could be losing Medicaid coverage in the near future. Between February 2020 and March 2023, Medicaid began continuous enrollment and grew by about 20 million people. This decreased the uninsured rate and it dropped to a record low as of early 2022. But, as of April 21st, 2023, states have started to unwind this continuous enrollment, and it has been estimated that about 17 million Americans, including about 150,000 Iowans, could lose Medicaid coverage - whether this means losing eligibility or still having eligibility but facing administrative barriers to be able to renew coverage.
